Like most people, you've probably wondered how some of Oakville's streets got their names. Joyce Burnell thought that Oakville needed a book about this and she was told to talk to David Ashe.

Ashe, who had spent many years compiling the street name history had several huge binders of research he was glad to share. Joyce selected a variety of street name histories and added landmarks.

In order to turn this into a book, Joyce contacted Sheila Creighton, a communications management specialist with experience producing publications. Sheila is also an accomplished writer and photographer. Josephine Kleimeyer, a journalist and teacher, assisted with editing and the three met regularly to work on the book.

It took four years to digitize, edit, collect images and layout and in 2007 Oakville Street Names & Landmarks was ready to be printed. Joyce and Sheila formed a business to do so and Burnell Creighton Publishing was born. Friesens Printing in Manitoba printed this lovely book which was launched on November 19, 2007.
